MOGADISHU, (Insidesomalia.org) - Four were people killed including two Ethiopian soldiers and seven other people were wounded in heavy fighting between Ethiopian troops and insurgents in the city Thursday, and witnesses said.

“There were a man and a woman, who died in the crossfire between the Ethiopians and the insurgents” Qali moallin, a local resident told insidesomalia, “three other people were seriously wounded and were taken to hospital”

The clashes started after Ethiopian supply convoy was attacked and prevented from reaching Ethiopian army bases in Huruwaa district in the northeast of the capital, residents said.

Residents in the Suqa Holaha neighbourhood, where the latest battle took place, said the troops deployed tanks in some of the streets in the neighbourhood after two Ethiopian soldiers were killed.

“People dragged the bodies of the two Ethiopian soldiers”, said an eyewitness who asked for anonymity.

Sources at Medina Hospital in Mogadishu said that the hospital have received four wounded people with injuries of varying severity. They said people had shrapnel and gunshot wounds.

The latest fighting has been continuing in the Somali capital for past week between Ethiopian troops and insurgents and claimed the lives of dozens and wounded scores of others.

Mogadishu have seen an upsurge of violence since last December when Somali government troops backed by Ethiopian forces and amour ousted an Islamist movement that have been in power in much of southern and central Somalia including the capital, Mogadishu.

The Islamists vowed to wage guerrilla tactic against Somali government officials and Ethiopian and Somali forces who face daily attacks from insurgent fighters.

Somali has been without a central authority since the overthrow of former dictator Mohamed Siyad Barre in 1991.
